Do You Sometimes Feel Alone?
After a year of unique and life-rocking changes around the world, depression, stress and anxiety have increased at an alarming rate. In fact, studies show that during the past year, 4 out of 10 adults have reported mental health concerns. The previous year that number was only 1 in 10.
Some might ask, “Why are we talking about mental health on a blog about leadership development ?” That’s actually a really good question. One that reveals the harmful stigmas so many with mental health issues face as well as the roadblocks that prevent people from getting the help they need.
What does ForeverGreen think about the relationship between mental health and leadership? Being a leader doesn’t necessarily mean you are free from depression or anxiety. It does however, mean you are continually trying to improve yourself and those you are responsible for. Being a leader means you are accepting of others and show compassion to those in need, including those who face obvious mental health challenges. Being a leader should never make you feel like asking others for help is not an option.
You might face mental health challenges. If you do, remember:
Your mental health matters. It matters to us at ForeverGreen. Here are some reminders for those times when you might feel like you don’t fit other’s definition of a leader:
- You don't have to be "fine".
- It’s okay to say no.
- Find strength in showing your emotions.
- It’s important to explore what you feel and which beliefs shape those emotions.
- Take time for yourself. You are worth the focus and energy.
- It’s possible to get out of toxic relationships and environments.
We all have rough days. It's ok. The most important thing is that you take care of yourself. At ForeverGreen, we care about each one of our representatives because you are our family.
