The Power of "WHY"

“As it turns out, all the great inspiring leaders and organizations in the world, whether it's Apple or Martin Luther King or the Wright brothers, they all think, act and communicate the exact same way. And it's the complete opposite to everyone else. " This quote by Simon Sinek introduces a remarkable concept about success and motivation. In his Ted Talk "How Great Leaders Inspire Action" he goes on to explain that inspired leaders think, act, and communicate FROM THE INSIDE OUT.

Simon uses Apple computers as an example of an inside-out marketing strategy. While other businesses might lead with the product they offer and how it's the best on the market and that it can impact the world, Apple's marketing pitch begins by emphasizing their goal to impact the world by changing the status quo. They change the status quo by creating beautiful, user-friendly products. Apple starts with the WHY. Basically, the point Simon conveys is that "People don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it. The goal is not to do business with everybody who needs what you have. The goal is to do business with people who believe what you believe."

So... What do you believe? Why are you doing what you do? If you haven't thought about these questions lately, maybe now is the time to do so. Imagine what kind of a change this exercise can have on your life, your business, your relationships.

How much of a difference does it make to be driven by belief? By a purpose or a cause? Consider the story of the invention of flight. The Wright brothers didn't have the same resources or education that a competitor Samuel Pierpont Langley had. However, They did have a purpose, one that really mattered. They knew that the successful invention of flight would literally change the world, and that was why they did what they did and succeeded. Samuel Langley was merely motivated by money. Money can be a great outcome of success, but falls short as a true motive for WHY something is done.

ForeverGreen was founded Inside-Out. If you’re familiar with the story, you would know that there was no actual product at the conception of this company, only the idea that “People are the most important product.” ForeveGreen stands by that motive. Everything we do, every goal we set, is focused on the purpose of improving the human experience.
