ForeverGreen Members are Humanitarians

On August 19th, 2003, a bomb attack at the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq killed 22 people, including the chief humanitarian in Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello. Every year since 2009, August 19th has been designated World Humanitarian Day by the United Nations. The theme for the 2021 celebration is #TheHumanRace, emphasizing the impact climate change has on vulnerable populations.

ForeverGreen was founded on the belief that people matter and each person can, and should, make a difference in this world. Being a humanitarian means getting involved in efforts that improve lives, whether big or small. In the past, ForeverGreen has promoted involvement through what we called a “Community Stand.” Every member of ForeverGreen is encouraged to contribute in their community. We want to encourage and celebrate the humanitarian efforts of you, our representatives.

The Soil and Roots will be celebrating your humanitarian efforts, not just this week, but throughout the year. We want to hear about what you are doing in your own communities to make a difference. It can be as small as writing a letter to someone who has been isolated by the COVID-19 pandemic. It could be as grand as helping clear debris after a natural disaster. There are many ways you can get involved and add your voice and strength to causes that matter. Email your stories to communications@forevergreen.org or use #ForeverGreenCares in your social posts.

To get involved in this year’s World Humanitarian Day Efforts, you can join the #HumanRace! Run, ride, swim, walk or do any activity of your choice for a cumulative 100 minutes between August 16 and August 31 to demand climate action.
