Do you know the Origins of Meditation?
There is actually no way to truly know when, by whom, or where meditation was first performed. Some may argue that meditation has existed as long as man-kind has been able to think.
The oldest known historical documentation of mediation is actually a piece of art from India depicting figures in meditative positions. It dates back to somewhere between 5,000 and 3,000 B.C. Meditation is most prominently associated with Buddhism, but also has connections in Confucianism, Islam, Judaism, Taoism, and other religions.
In the 1700’s, meditation began gaining interest in the western world, but it wasn’t until the 1970’s that people began to research the health benefits of meditation. The Mindfulness-Based-Stress-Reduction program came out of this research in 1979.
Depending on which style or method practiced, elements of meditation can include:
Visualization
Mantras
Breathing
Contemplation
Prayer
Mindfulness
Philosophical exploration
If you’ve never tried meditation before, here is a simple guided meditation for stress relief in English. Here is one in French, one in German, and one in Spanish. To enhance any mediation, we suggest applying a PowerStrip anywhere on your body and allowing it’s relaxing properties to work with your body and mind.
