Road Rage isn’t that big a deal… is it?
Your muscles tense up, your stomach starts to bubble, your face turns red and your heart pounds faster. Before you can think about it, you’re yelling at a driver in a car that can’t even hear you. While everyone knows road rage can lead to car accidents, did you know that road rage is killing you another way? That’s right, stress can kill you.
The body’s stress response is designed to protect you but the more time your body spends in a state of stress, the more damage it suffers. This article includes an infographic detailing where and how stress affects your body including:
- Tight, achy muscles
- Tension headaches
- High blood pressure
- Heart attacks
- Constipation
- Heartburn
- Insomnia
- Weakened immune system
- Low sex drive
- Fertility problems
- Respiratory issues
- And More...
The more often your stress response is engaged, the easier it is to activate it. So next time you’re on the road and someone cuts you off, think about how getting upset will do more harm to your own body than to the other driver. Take a deep breath and come back for next week's article where we discuss tips to avoid and relieve stress.
